Factsheet

Platforms & Release

The game's Steam demo will be released in April 2026 and will focus on the game's Survival Mode. The full game will release in Summer 2026.

Development

Development started shortly after Caput Mortum's release in August 2025, with the same core two-person team. The game is being developed on Unreal Engine 5.

"Our goal is to walk the line between cute and horror, retro and modern. We aim to make the presentation approachable, while surprising and delighting players with moments of tension. We’ve chosen a stylized approach that harkens back to early 3D models while leveraging modern dynamic lighting. It also benefits from our strengths as developers: fun characters and great atmosphere."

Playtime

We estimate it will take 2 to 3 hours to complete the story campaign. The game also features a highly replayable Survival Mode with a global leaderboard.

Story Campaign

You are Doug Barker, a seasoned paranormal special agent, and you work for P.A.W. (Paranormal Agency Worldwide).
An anonymous distress signal was sent from the L.R.S. Great White, a mysterious research station on rails in Antarctica owned by the secretive corporation SHARK
With the help of your navigator back at HQ, make your way through the train and stop the interdimensional horrors that SHARK has unleashed! But remember to keep it running! If it stops, you might freeze to death or risk being overwhelmed by horrifying monsters…

Experience a linear story by solving puzzles and unlocking new areas inside the train. In addition, train cars can suffer damage and must be repaired. Otherwise, the train stops and the doors open, letting the cold and abominations in! If Doug is outside for too long, he’ll start freezing to death!

Survival Mode

Test your skills and develop clever strategies to stay alive as long as possible in Fright Train's Survival Mode!

Scavenge the procedurally generated train for resources and unlock new cars and rooms by using the credits you gather, but don't forget to take time to prepare yourself for the waves of enemies that will appear during deadly storms. Compete for the top place on the leaderboards, and who knows? There might be more than one train on these tracks…

Key Features

Meaningful and Tactical Inventory Management

Big and medium-sized items are physically displayed on the character, and the speed at which he can fetch them depends on where the item is located on the body: a magazine will be quicker to insert if it's stored on the chest rather than on the lower back! Furthermore, during the game, you will pick up ammo boxes and magazines. When reloading, you can perform two actions: load a mag into your gun, or insert bullets into a mag.

Volatile Combat Ecosystem

In Fright Train, enemy behaviors intertwine, allowing them to support or sabotage one another. Some enemies have armor and weak points: learn how to exploit their vulnerabilities and responses to attacks!

Semi-realistic Stylized Graphics

Play through a fully dynamic lived-in environment in which you'll find lore and many objects with which you can interact: vending machines for supplies, crates to kick, terminals to monitor and repair the train's parts, doors to unlock, and more!

Adaptative Soundtrack

Composed by Ockeroid, Fright Train's score smoothly transitions between eerie ambience and heart-pounding tracks!
